I. There is a problem in society today. That problem is that people don't notice what they eat or what is in their food, I'm talking about GM foods. Genetically modified (GM) foods are foods derived from genetically modified organisms.Genetically modified organisms have had specific changes introduced into their DNA by genetic engineering techniques. These techniques are much more precise than mutation breeding; where an organism is exposed to radiation or chemicals to create a non-specific but stable change. Other techniques by which humans modify food organisms include selective breeding; plant breeding, and animal breeding, and somaclonal variation.The food industry is not telling the whole truth. They are violating a consumers right to information. Food prices may increase but that shouldn't be too much of a big deal considering that we would be informing the people what they are actually consuming and/or feeding to their families. With no labels people have no idea what is in their food and it could be possible that someone who eats tomato but the tomato has some kind of oil in it that a person has already eaten, but now with this new genetically modified tomatoes in place of the original ones, then said person eats the tomato and has an alergic reaction and gets ill. This fate could been avoided if there were a label saying exactly in the food/tomato.










II. Facts that demonstrate that there is a problem are: (You may use your own sources and the sources of the members in your group)
Scientists recommend that food safety assessment should take place on a case-by-case basis before genetically modified food is brought to the market. In such assessments, foodstuffs derived from genetically modified plants are compared to their conventional counterparts, which are generally considered safe due to their long history of use. This comparison considers to what extent different foodstuffs can cause harmful effects or allergies and how much nutrients they contain.
